In 1865 in the town of Le Locle in the Swiss Jura, visionary watchmaker George Favre-Jacot was driven by the idea of creating the most accurate and reliable watches of his time. He revolutionised the way of producing timepieces by erecting spacious and luminous buildings and by bringing together the entire range of watchmaking professions under one roof. In doing so, he facilitated the systematic control of each component and that of the complete mechanism. Regrouping these skills in one place significantly spurred the progress of production techniques, and Zenith was indeed thus able to produce the most precise and reliable watches ever.
To this day, Zenith remains one of the rare manufacturers capable of producing all parts of its watches. It is also the first to have developed, in 1969, a high-frequency automatic integrated column-wheel chronograph powered by the legendary El Primero 3019 movement beating at 36,000 vibrations per hour. This obsession with precision as well as this constant quest for technical innovation have been duly rewarded, for in the almost century and a half since its founding, the Manufacture has been awarded 2,333 chronometry prizes as well as eight medals – making it the most titled brand in the field of precision. 600 movement variations have been developed to date and 300 patents filed, all bearing eloquent testimony to this peerless technical expertise.
